Congratulations to Athlete Megan Mahoney for being our August AOM!

Megan has been with us for well over a year, and in that time has planted strong roots in our TW Community. An avid fan of the 8am class, Megan has brought lots of love, energy and joy to the other members of our beloved community. She is quick with a joke, keeping us coaches and fellow athletes on our toes everyday. She knows how to make someone smile, especially when they need it. She has a fiery energetic personality that brings spice to each and every class. All the while being one of the most caring athletes we have ever seen. Not to mention she has crushed workouts while 9 months pregnant! She showed no hesitation to come back post pregnancy when she was feeling strong and ready which was a wonderful example of her dedication and passion for fitness. Not to mention she crushed our nutrition challenge and since has continued building on those healthy habits! Way to go Meg, we are very proud and you should be too.

TW: Where are you from?

Megan: I’m originally from Cranston, Rhode Island but moved to the Boston area 9 years ago and then was swooped up by Dan Mahoney and brought here to Winthrop.

TW: What do you do for work?

Megan: Before having my little ones I worked in special education as a paraprofessional.  I now am a stay at home mom which is my favorite job in the world.

TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?

Megan: I joined in April 2021!

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Megan: I’ve always worked out throughout life and during the pandemic I was working out at home.  I needed a change and Dan had always raved about Tradewinds, (I didn’t really believe him) but then Shannon Mahoney joined and she began to rave about it, so I obviously had fomo (if you know me, thats normal.) and I had to try it for myself…. Here I am over a year later and still obsessed with Tradewinds!

TW: What group class do you usually attend?

Megan: 8AM BABYYYYYY!! I have to give the biggest shout out to this crew, my first day in I was overwhelmed (thank you Mer for programing 45 minutes straight of burpees for my first class, you’ll never live it down.) But the minute I walked in I wanted to be a part of the group of 8am. And let me tell you, they are my family now. I’ve met some of my closest friends in that class and I’m forever thankful for that.

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?

Megan: I used to work out daily but then the pandemic happened and I had my little dude and I began working out at home and needed a switch up! I’m so happy I stepped foot into Tradewinds because I’ve never felt better!

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?

Megan: Oh man this is tough. I’m afraid to comment on this only to regret it when its actually programed haha! But maybe start with some running to get the heart rate up and then RDL’s and back squats and end with a little core? (I’m sorry ahead of time)

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Megan: I’m really proud of the dedication I’ve developed while attending here! Having two little ones 22 months apart absolutely could hold me back if I wanted to use that as an excuse. I’m really proud of my body as corny as that is. Back at the end of April I was feeling a little defeated because I wasn’t losing as much as weight as I thought I would be after having my little girl but Gabby told me about the fitness nutrition challenge that Caren was doing and I took a leap and did it.  I’ve never felt so happy in my own skin and thats because of the community and the coaches pushing me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! I wouldn’t be able to say any of this without you guys!

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Megan: Tradewinds has made me a better person and mother.  We cheer each other on every single day while we all take these crazy chances and challenges during class that I’ve taken it with me every day.  Even if that means just cheering on my little ones while they try something for the first time.  We all have to be each others cheerleaders but most importantly, your own cheerleader.

TW: What do you like to do outside of the gym?

Megan: I love spending quality time with my family and friends, I absolutely love to travel or even take day trips. And…. I love to go to target & online shop. (Obviously)

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Megan: Some 2000’s hip hop or some party music.

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Megan: Just take that first class. Come to the 8am!  We love when new people come!! Any gym is overwhelming. Buuuut… After the first class at Tradewinds you’ll be addicted. And very very sore in the best way possible! And you’ll never walk out of there without feeling the good vibes from all of the coaches! You won’t regret it, I PROMISE!

AOM Closing Thoughts…

My experience has been very special here at Tradewinds.  I’ve been able to build the best friendships with so many people.  I cannot not shout out my two partners in crime LeighAnn & Maria.  (Thank you Gabby, Mer & the 8am for dealing with us daily) But truly all of the people I have met in this gym have been the best. Besides the friendships, this place has made not only myself, but all of us grow. Watching people come in every day with a new goal and absolutely crushing them is so beyond inspiring. The ladies I work out with daily leave me in awe.  (No disrespect to you fellas that join us occasionally you’re killing it too) but DAAAMMNN! We are a very strong set of women and I feel so lucky to be a part of this gym.  I’m forever thankful for this space that pushes us mentally and physically every day. This isn’t a gym, its a fitfam!
