February 2024 Athlete of the Month

Tradewinds is excited to announce our AOM for February 2024 is… Nicolette Bushman! Congratulations Nicolette, very well deserved.

Once upon a time, TW was just a mystery to Nicolette, she only knew of us thanks to her boyfriend Ben who has been a staple in our community for some time now. With some convincing, she agreed to come to one of our bring a friend days and the rest is history! Since then Nicolette has become a staple herself in our community. You can find Nicolette making us laugh, keeping things positive, finding the humor in a hard workout and above all else lifting up those around her. She has made significant progress in all areas since joining us and it has been a pleasure to see her along this ride. Nicolette is a great role model for being consistent, listening to her body and finding ways to push for progress when the time is right. Thank you Nicolette for being such a bright light in our fit fam- we appreciate you and are always rooting for you!

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Nicolette: My proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds would be learning to embrace

and appreciate Burpees.

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Nicolette: Tradewinds has provided me with a sense of community and support that I longed for

since moving to Boston during the pandemic. I also appreciate how Tradewinds is about

functional fitness. The emphasis on everyday movements has not only made me

stronger but also increased my muscle endurance. I’ve noticed a significant boost in

flexibility and mobility, making daily activities feel more natural. Improved balance and

coordination has become apparent. Not to mention, functional fitness has played a

crucial role in managing my weight and body composition. Beyond the physical benefits,

it has been a game-changer for my mental well-being, reducing stress and boosting my

mood. The adaptability to daily tasks is perhaps the most rewarding aspect, as I feel

more resilient and less prone to injuries. It's not just a workout routine; it’s a lifestyle that

has positively impacted every facet of my health and daily life.

TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?

Nicolette: Outside of the gym I like to make/eat sushi, travel the world, and spend quality time with friends and family.

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Nicolette: Anything Punk/Rock, especially on a heavy lifting day.

TW: Do you have a favorite recipe right now?

Nicolette: This Italian Gluten Free Almond Orange Cake!  Changes I’ve made: 1/2 tsp of almond extract, 1/4 cup of sugar (I prefer less sweet), 1/8 tsp vanilla extract.

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but

not sure if they could do it?

Nicolette: I’d say, “Functional fitness is about embracing your own starting point and progressing at your pace. Don’t be intimidated — it’s designed to enhance your everyday

movements. Start with basic exercises, listen to your body, and gradually build up. You

might surprise yourself with what you can achieve. It’s not about perfection; it’s about

progress and the positive impact on your daily life. Give it a shot, stay consistent, and

enjoy the journey of becoming a healthier, stronger version of yourself.”
