It’s Monday, and I also can’t believe it’s already March 1st! What a year it’s been.

For this post I am going to get a little vulnerable, so if you don’t want to read that, then you can stop now.

However if you want to take a peek behind the curtain and see that we’re all human, struggling with very similar things, and how I handle it, well then keep reading my friend.

So I am just going to come out and say it, I am not currently super pumped with where my body is right now, physically. Physique wise, just as in how I look, I am not where I want to be.

Currently I am carrying about an extra 15 pounds around.

Now for some of you reading this, the number you’re carrying may be more. It may be less. But I just wanted to come out and say that you’re not alone.

Even me, who owns a gym and exercises and knows how to eat healthy, sometimes life just happens.

Now I could sit here and tell you all different kinds of excuses, but at the end of the day they would be just that, excuses.

I have the knowledge and the means to drop the weight.

So how did I get here?

Just like everyone else, one little step at a time.

It’s not like it happened over night. First it was 5 pounds. Then 10. And now the 15.

It doesn’t help that I enjoyed some beers and pizza with some friends this weekend.

So how am I going to fix this? How am I going to break through this plateau? And how should you?

Well first I am going to stop being angry at myself. I am going to give myself some grace and be ok with what happened. Being angry, mad, and disappointed with myself does me no good. It won’t help me drop the weight, so why even bother?

Secondly, I am going to drop the weight, one small step at a time. Just like how I got here, is exactly how I am going to get back.

I am going to focus on movement again. As long as the weather is nice a 30 minute walk each day should be a good start. Now, yes I already workout and take a group class each day, but more movement never hurt anyone.

Next I am going to dial back in my nutrition. Now again I don’t eat terribly, but there are small things I can do to make improvements. Drink more water. Stop snacking. Cook more at home and not order take out.

Again I have the knowledge and the skills, so now it’s just taking the small steps.

Just like anything else, if you are unhappy with where you are, you need to do something different.

And remember, it’s not going to happen overnight. It’ll take small steps, and you will fall down. But the progress will happen if you keep getting back up.

I just wanted to share a little personal story of where I am right now, just to show that you’re not alone. We all go through similar struggles.

If you’re looking for a support system to help you through some of your challenges, shoot us a message or come in and try out a class. We would love to walk this path with you.

Coach Andy is an Owner and Head Coach at Tradewinds. He grew up in traditional martial arts and uses that rigor and discipline in his high intensity strength training. The more technical the movement, the better, with his specialty being the olympic lifts, especially the snatch.
