J is for June, and it’s also for our next Athlete of the Month – Josh!
When he’s not dreaming of assault bike workouts, or somehow not looking like death in Murph pictures (check out the Murph 2018 photo album on Facebook. You’ll see), our newest featured athlete is killing it day after day in the gym. Let’s check out what he’s got to say!

Athlete Interview
CFT: Where are you from?
Josh: I was born and raised right here in Winthrop
CFT: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Josh: Just over a year now, started going in April of 2017

CFT: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting CrossFit?
Josh: I’ve been a casual gym-goer since college and would go jogging from time to time all the way back to my high school days. Always trying to stay active by playing sports with friends and things like that.
CFT: What motivated you to try CrossFit?
Josh: A couple of my coworkers and friends had taken Crossfit classes prior to me signing up. They’d always be telling me all about their workouts and all the different movements and milestones they had achieved (weird, right?). A lot of it sounded grueling, but I was so curious to try it out, because it really seemed to be something they loved and I thought I’d love it too (and I was right!). Also, having the gym being literally a 5 minute walk from my house, how could I not try it out?

CFT: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Josh: Hmmm. My dream WOD would definitely have to include some 400m runs, wall balls, and of course the assault bike!

CFT: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining CFT?
Josh: I’d have to say getting my 1st chest to bar pull-up during the Open this year was pretty exciting.

CFT: How has CFT helped you in your everyday life?
Josh: CFT has improved my everyday life significantly. I have so much more energy since I’ve been going to Crossfit, and have become stronger and more toned than ever before.

CFT: What do you like to do outside of the gym?
Josh: Outside of the gym, I love going to the beach with friends in the summer. Love watching football and basketball. I also am in a couple of intramural leagues for Dodgeball and Cornhole, all of the random activities haha.

CFT: What is your favorite song to workout to?
Josh: Honestly, I could workout to CFT’s ‘Burpee Sally’ and do burpees all class… but Lose Yourself by Eminem has to be the best song to workout to hands down.

CFT: Any parting thoughts as we wrap-up this month?
Josh: In the past, I’d be tired from work, skip the gym, and decide to nap instead. Well, waking up from those naps I’d feel just as tired as I did before, and have felt like I’ve wasted my day away. These days, I get myself to CFT almost every day after work, get a great workout in from the great coaching staff, and have so much energy when leaving the gym. Who needs naps anymore! I also love the energy the gym has, it’s a very friendly and motivating atmosphere. It’s the atmosphere that keeps you coming back for more every day. It’s also so rewarding to see the progress your body can make by coming to the gym day after day. For example, when I first started going last year, I couldn’t do a pull-up to save my life. Now, a year later, I’m able to do several strict pull-ups and it’s honestly such a great feeling knowing how far you’ve come, and that the possibilities are endless as long as you’re willing to put in the work!

Fantastic stuff, Josh! Congrats and have a great month!
