A big congratulations to our TW Athlete of the Month… Phi Thomson!
Phi started with us in September of 2021, diving head first into our personal training realm of fitness. She has worked with Coach Gabby and has been an absolute pleasure to coach throughout her time here. Phi is no stranger to a challenge, she loves to come in and really get after it. No matter the challenge she is always ready and willing to tackle it. Phi is relentless in her mission to always be moving well, pushing the needle, improving and finding new ways to challenge herself. Phi is the Tradewinds World Record Wall-sit holder, with a time of 3 minutes and 10 seconds. She has deadlifted hundreds of pounds throughout her time here with a smile on her face every single rep, and the desire to keep going for more. Phi is the epitome of a lifetime athlete, she is determined to keep going, striving to be 1% better, and having as much fun as possible every single day. We appreciate and admire you Phi- thank you for being you and representing Tradewinds well!
TW: Where are you from?
Phi: Winthrop MA
TW: What do you do for work?
Phi: Administrative assistant for a condominium association, now happily retired!
TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?
Phi: It will be 2 years in September!
TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?
Phi: I had been at planet fitness, but always knew about Tradewinds through my friend Trish. I always wanted to try the gym after watching her workout here so I just thought I would give it a try, and I ended up loving it.
TW: What group class do you usually attend?
Phi: I workout with Gabby at 10am 3 days per week.
TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?
Phi: I used to workout with a trainer at the Y in East Boston and have always gone to planet fitness. At one point I was a runner, I used to do 5k’s with my friend Kathy, until she lost a toenail! I have also always been into yoga and have practiced that for several years.
TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Phi: I like Ring rows, LOVE deadlifts, have enjoyed trying Med Ball G2OH, oh and definitely can’t forget the rowing machine! Those are my favorites, but I’m really happy doing anything.
TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?
Phi: Coming 3x per week consistently and just sticking with it, for sure.
TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?
Phi: I am stronger than I was, it helps me have patience by sticking with something that is difficult for me.
TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?
Phi: Gardening, flowers, walking, spending time with my two adorable kittens, hanging out with friends!
TW: What is your favorite song?
Phi: Goodness of God, by Bethel Music. It gives me the strength I need to carry on.
TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?
Phi: If I can do it at 83 you can certainly try it. When I first came and watched Trish workout here and saw her doing everything in the gym I was blown away. The true secret is in loving it.
AOM Closing Thoughts…
This is the best experience that I have ever had in fitness. Everybody is so encouraging, I feel like I am a part of a family here, I really do. Everyone is so helpful and so encouraging, that’s really all there is to it. I just love being here and I look forward to it, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, it is the highpoint of my week. I am really lucky at my age to come in and do this, and we are gonna keep doing it!
