It’s getting cold, but your wellness doesn’t need to be…

While we start to prepare for winter to really arrive, now is the time to dial in that fitness and focus on your overall wellness. Even small things can add up to big changes over time and help keep you on track. 

This month we have a great way to get you & keep you moving at least a little bit everyday, we also highlight our latest Athlete of the Month, spotlight our Toy Drive, and remind you of our upcoming events & schedule adjustments.

   Athlete of the Month   

Ed D. is your Athlete of the Month for December!

Ed is a consistent member of your evening classes and is getting ready to celebrate his 1-year Tradewinds anniversary. No matter what the challenge is, Ed tackles it with full force and has been crushing personal goals left & right. We are all super proud of your hard work!!

CFT: Where are you from? 
Ed: East Boston, Born & Raised 
 
CFT: What motivated you to try CrossFit?
Ed: I feel like I always do better in structured group classes, so I had been looking for something like that, close to home – Also Paul Franzese wouldn’t shut up about CrossFit Tradewinds, so I figured I would give it a shot. Glad I did. 

CFT: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Ed: I really enjoy strength training, so I would say some combination of power cleans and back squats.

  Events & Competitions  

December Advent Challenge

We have a fun Advent Challenge to help keep you on track through the entire month of December! Ready to ring in the new year on a positive, happier note?!

This challenge has 3 key goals: 
1. Move everyday – We will post a short workout challenge each day that can be completed without major equipment so you can do it at home or at work even on the days you might not be able to make it into the gym.

2. Drink half your bodyweight in water (in ounces!), everyday – If you’re not thirsty, you’ll eat fewer gingerbread men.  

3. Share fitness with your loved ones – The workouts are designed for easy participation. 

Points: 
For every goal met you earn a raffle ticket. For goal #3, you get a raffle ticket if you get a friend outside the gym (a non-Tradewinds member) to join you in the daily challenge.

Use the whiteboard in the gym by the boxes to record your score for the different challenges for each day.

Raffle tickets are available at the desk. Fill them out and drop them in the wrapped box! A series of fabulous prizes will be awarded at the end of the challenge. 

Tag us on social media & use #TradewindsAdventChallenge when you complete the challenges outside the gym.

The challenge will run from December 1st through December 31st.

Saturday, December 15, 2018 | 11am

The 3rd Annual Winter Internal Team Competition is designed for all levels! Team Tradewinds will work to assemble teams of all varying levels. Teams will take on various workouts over the course of a couple hours. The workouts will be released prior to the competition. There will be one floater workout announced the day of the competition. Teams will need to come up with a team name, team description & team song… think wrestling intro music. Teams will need to strategize in advance to play to their strengths & weaknesses. The team with the most points at the end takes home the glory & title of the 2018 Champs. 

The competition starts shortly after 11am. Come by to cheer on your fellow athletes.

Saturday, December 15
Family Friendly – 6:00-8:00pm
21+ after  8:00pm

Eat. Drink. And be Fitulous in our winter wondergym as we celebrate another fantastic year at Tradewinds filled with all the PRs and friendly faces.

Get ready for some fun & festive activities, including but not limited to: 

  • 2018 highlight reel
  • return of our festive box photo booth
  • community superlatives (survey will go out the week of the event – email Coach Mary for any category suggestions by 12/8)
  • 2018 athlete awards
  • some extra special surprises!

Food & Drinks
Sign-up in advance to bring your favorite holiday treats and as always BYO Beverages AND THYOBAF (take home your own booze & food) 😛 Food sign-up sheet will go be out at the gym starting on 12/9. All food & drinks must be taken home before leaving the event, please & thank you!

Attire
Festival Holiday attire is encouraged. And feel free to bring any festive props for our photo booth!

Guests
All are welcome to attend! Bring your family, including the kids (if you want, but we won’t judge if you’d rather leave them at home :-D). Guests are welcome to attend. The more the merrier, as we celebrate our wonderful community of athletes, coaches, family, & friends. Please email Coach Mary to let us know if you plan to bring any guests so we can plan accordingly.

Timeline
Family friendly fun will take place from 6pm-8pm.
21+ after 8pm.

Please celebrate responsibly. And please do not drink and drive.

Let’s finish out 2018 in the best way we all know how, with all the fun & celebration, and making awesome new memoreies!

   December Toy Drive   

We are hosting our 3nd Annual Toy Drive to help the Winthrop Police Department during this holiday season to collect toys for local families in need. From Saturday, December 1 through Friday, December 14, we will be collecting new, unopened toys for all ages. All donations will be distributed to the police department on Saturday, December 15.
