It happens to every athlete… When you’ve been doing it long enough (working out that is), personal records (PRs) and milestones start to become fewer and farther between. How can you get past that? See what you can do to get something in your W (aka Win) column. It can literally be anything: Plan to go to the gym 3 times a week, and get that W by going 3 times; having a rough time with a particular movement, get that W by committing to practicing that movement and following through with it.
There are many, many ways you can get that W, so long as you take a good look at where you’re at, set some realistic attainable goals, work hard, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
You can even extend this to other areas. Trying to get better at golf? Try decreasing your number of strokes on the course by 1. Running? Try finishing your usual route faster, or extend your distance. Whatever it is, find your W… Tradewinds is here to help!

October’s AOM is Amy! Being a relatively new CFT athlete, Amy has quickly integrated with the community and recently helped out at the I Love Winthrop 5k before running the race herself! Let’s hear more from her!
Athlete Interview
CFT: Where are you from?
Amy: Westbrook, CT
CFT: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Amy: I did CrossFit in Miami for a few months before I moved here, but I’ve been with Tradewinds since March.
CFT: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting CrossFit?
Amy: I was an athlete growing up so fitness has always been a big part of my life.

Starting on Columbus Day, CrossFit Tradewinds will be collecting cash donations throughout the entire month of October to donate to the ellie fund anon-profit organization that provides transportation to medical appointments, childcare, housekeeping, groceries and meals free of charge to more ttahn 500 women and families each year who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Massachusetts.There will be a donation can on the gym desk to donate.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Community Workout Monday, October 8 | 10am
Please join us in kicking off a celebration to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in honor & memory of those affected. This free community workout will be on Columbus Day, 10/8 at 10am. Friends & family (including the kids) are welcome to join in for this partner workout celebration.
This month’s community workout will be an extra special one not only to support the BCAM cause, but to also recognize and support another community of individuals. Our very own Coach Jackie will assistant coach this community workout in ASL. Any members of the ASL community are also welcome to attend.
Join Coach Keith & Coach Michaela for a special spooky surprise partner WOD on the Sunday before Halloween. Workout capable costumes are highly encouraged! More details to come.
Tradewinds Kids will be having a costume party workout the Tuesday before Halloween. Current Tradewinds kids are welcome to bring a friend that day for free. Make sure to wear your favorite workout capable costume! There will be special Halloween themed activities. Guests must have a parent sign a waiver & sign-up in advance to attend. Link to waiver.

Trick o Treat at Tradewinds Wednesday, October 31 | Time TBD
CrossFit Tradewinds doorswill be open on Halloween for trick or treaters. Come on by dressed up with your kids to say “Hi” and for a treat! More details to come.

CrossFit Tradewinds will host a special Halloween costume contest all day on Halloween… so through together an awesome custome and sign up for class on 10/31! More details to come.

Join your fellow CrossFit Tradewinds athletes for a Halloween night out after classes on 10/31. Anyone taking barbell class are also welcome to come out after. More details to come.

Surprise Individual Competition Saturday, November 17, 2018
Save the date! Team Tradewinds has an awesome competition coming up this November unlike anything we’ve ever done before. So if you like a good challenge, and some heavy competition, mark your calendars for this event… Keep an eye out for some upcoming teasers from Coach Andy!
Barbell Class
This fall we are launching a new group class designed for individuals who want to focus on and improve their lifting.
Program Details
This new 1 hour Barbell group class will run twice a week on Wednesdays at 8pm and Saturdays at 8am starting October 3 through November 10 (12 sessions). These classes are separate from CrossFit classes and memberships, and will be capped to 8 athletes per class. Athletes will need to sign-up for classes in advance on WOD Together. Registration is closed for this special group class, however, we will send out a weekly email announcement if there are any open spots for a drop-in. Drop-ins to the Barbell group class are $30 per class on a first reserve basis.

For the second year in a row, not only has CFT organized the I Love Winthrop Charity 5K, but we’ve also participated in the festival afterward. Coach Andy, and Chris were among those handing out free fruit and water to visitors at our tent. It was a beautiful day, and a lot of fun! Thank you again to all our sponsors, donors, volunteers & runners!!! <3
