November 2024 Athlete of the Month

Congratulations to our November Athlete of the Month… Janeen Barker!

Janeen has been a dedicated athlete of ours for nearly 2 years now. She started her journey with us with the goal of working on some lower back pain and quickly crushed that goal. She has progressed through a ton of strength training, worked through injuries and restrictions and ultimately ended up as a staple in our group classes. She brings humor, fun, and hard work all together into each class she attends. She works hard with a smile on her face, puts in the reps and has gotten so strong! When she’s not crushing group classes she is also crushing 10ks with us or making us laugh with her hilarious stories. Janeen is someone we are so proud to have representing the gym and our community. Thanks for being you Janeen, congrats!

TW: Where are you from?

Janeen: Revere, MA

TW: What do you do for work?

Janeen: I am a personal assistant/operations at a Hedge Fund

TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?

Janeen: 1.5 years?

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Janeen: Was getting bored of working out in my house.  I wanted to connect with a fun, energetic team!

TW: What group class do you usually attend?

Janeen: 11:30, 5 or 6

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?

Janeen: Yes, I have been running for years, a couple of halfs, and typically doing group fitness at a gym near my ofc.

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be? Does floating on a raft count?

Janeen: I would start with a light yoga/stretching, followed by a 1 mile run, then lift some heavy weights.

TW:What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Janeen: The fact that I STILL want to be there every single workout, I don’t dread it EVER.

TW:How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Janeen: Keeps me on track in the kitchen and my fitness goals. Use it or lose it!

TW:What do you like to do outside the gym?

Janeen: BAKE!  In my spare time, I make wedding cakes and decorative cookies.

TW:What is your favorite song to workout to?

Janeen: Andy’s music, lol, whatever he plays, IS my jam.

TW:What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Janeen: OMG, just get here (the amazing coaches will do the rest)  except for hang cleans (those suckers are awful)!

Closing AOM Thoughts…

Well, I could go on and on… but Tradewinds is an extremely inviting place to workout.  NO judgment ever, but they still push you to be your best. I also appreciate how they go over the moves/form and still let me ask several more times in each class.  I WANT to be corrected when I could be doing something better, this is huge to me.
