Congratulations to Athlete Kevin Kago on being chosen as our September 2022 Athlete of the Month!
Throughout his time at TW, Kevin has truly become an ingrained part of our community. He has brought energy, passion, quick wit, effort and desire to every class we have seen him in. Kevin is an amazing example of how to balance an active lifestyle, between enjoying class, running, recreational sports and more he shows how you CAN do it all in a functional way. In the gym, Kev gives 100% effort even when he knows it’s going to be hard. He channels the energy from stressful situations outside the gym into his workouts and absolutely crushes it. He is an encouraging, intuitive and overall likable athlete that we are so proud to call one of our own. He sets the bar and standard for the type of athlete that we should all be striving for- thanks for being the best Kevin!
TW: Where are you from?
Kevin: I am originally from Cameroon (West Africa) but I moved to the US when I was 16 and I lived all over the North Shore until now.
TW: What do you do for work?
Kevin: I am an accountant for a Biotech company in Chelsea.
TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?
Kevin: have been at Tradewinds for 9 months.
TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?
Kevin: We had just moved to Winthrop at the time and we were looking for an alternative to a normal regular gym
TW: What group class do you usually attend?
Kevin: I normally attend the afternoon classes (usually the 5 or 6pm classes). I heard we can be a bit pessimistic in the afternoon lol, but I think we deserve to be that way after a long day at work. We are just releasing all the stress and using that to motivate ourselves lol.
TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?
Kevin: I played Soccer (I play in different leagues during the summer) and Basketball (casually) on a regular basis.
TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Kevin: Anything that involves running, biking, rowing, squats and the occasional burpees (ugh I know lol)
TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?
Kevin: My proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds is the amount of pull ups I am able to do now, which shows how stronger I have gotten since joining Tradewinds
TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?
Kevin: Tradewinds has helped in so many ways in my everyday life. I can always count on Tradewinds to relieve some stress when I am really stressed.
TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?
Kevin: I like to watch and play sports. Traveling is a huge passion of mine. The goal is to visit as many countries as possible.
TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?
Kevin: I don’t really have any specific song, there are too many, it really depends on how I feel that day, but I love working out to Hip Hop/Rap and Afrobeats
TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?
Kevin: I would tell them to give Tradewinds a try, they won’t be disappointed. it does not matter the level of fitness you are on, the coaches will work with you and suggest any adjustment you might need for any workout.
AOM Closing thoughts…
Kevin: what else can I say about Tradewinds? I love everything about Tradewinds. I am the perfect example why Tradewinds is so great. When I joined Tradewinds on Dec 21, it was only supposed to be for a couple of months. But I felt so comfortable at Tradewinds that I am still here. Tradewind has everything you are looking for in a high intensity interval training gym because of amazing coaches, flexible hours and awesome athletes. I would give Tradewinds a 10 out 10 every time.
