September 2023 Athlete of the Month

It is with a great deal of pride that we would like to announce our September 2023 Athlete of the Month as… Dave Croce! Congrats Dave, well deserved.

Dave has been with us for just over 6 months now, but it feels like he has been a regular with us for much longer than that. Dave has become a staple in our evening classes, and for that we have to tip our hats to his consistency. You can always count on Dave to get his classes in for the week, and to do so without complaint. Due to his consistent efforts, Dave has progressed tremendously in his journey at TW, making huge strides in olympic lifting technique, as well as challenging himself to push harder and broaden his horizons in the gym. Through it all Dave remains a humble, kind, respectful person who brings a great energy into the community. We are very proud to be able to call Dave one of our athletes!

TW: Where are you from?

Dave: I’ve lived right down the street in Beachmont my entire life.

TW: What do you do for work?

Dave: I’m a licensed master plumber.

TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds? I

Dave: ’ve been coming here for about 6 months now.

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Dave: In the past 3 years, I’ve lost about 50 pounds through dieting and minimal exercise. I decided to start exercising regularly to take my healthy lifestyle to the next level.

TW: What group class do you usually attend?

Dave: I sign up for 6:00 PM every day, but I try to make it to 5:00 if I’m home in time.

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?

Dave: Not so much. About 10 years ago, I was a member at a different gym and regularly attended group classes doing similar workouts for a year or so.

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?

Dave: This is tricky, as I’m still learning what I like and dislike. I can say for certain something without a jump rope, and perhaps something that includes a grind on the rower.

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Dave: I’m proud that I’ve adapted from not exercising much to getting in here consistently and not having it become a burden, but rather the opposite. Also, I was able to hike up and down Mount Washington on August 26 do in no small part to my training at Tradewinds!

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Dave: I’ve noticed at work that some tasks are less strenuous. The WODs are helping me become the version of myself that I need to be to live a long and healthy life.

TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?

Dave: I look forward to the weekends and catching up on all things racing. Especially Nascar and Formula 1. I love watching and attending Red Sox games. When I attend events, I like to arrive early and make a day of it.

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Dave: Recently, you guys have been pushing EDM from the 2010s through the speakers, and I’m loving it, so keep that up!

Hatebreed: Weight of the False Self is in my regular listening rotation and is relevant to the positive attitude and what we do here.

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Dave: Take a leap of faith and exit your comfort zone. Walking through the door the first time is the hardest part, but it gets easier after that. Everyone is friendly, and there isn’t a bro-elitist attitude here. There are people of all ages who lead many different lives from many different backgrounds. Tradewinds is super convenient, especially if you live in Winthrop, Revere, or Eastie. Please give it a try!

AOM Closing Thoughts…

I’m proud to be an athlete here at Tradewinds. I look forward to getting to know more about you all and participating in upcoming events. Thank you for the great coaching, programming, and support!
