How the weather can improve your health

It’s my favorite time of year!

After much anticipated wait, it finally feels like the summer most of us know and love.

The sun is shining, the breeze feels nice on our skin and we want to spend more time outside enjoying it all.

Well that’s great news for our health too.

From physical benefits to mental benefits, spending time outside in nature can help get you looking and feeling your best.

Some of the physical health benefits you can get from spending time outside include better sleep, enhanced immune function and improved bone health!

Natural light exposure helps regulate circadian rhythms, promoting better sleep patterns. Morning sunlight, in particular, can help set your internal clock and improve the quality and duration of your sleep.

Exposure to natural environments can boost your immune system. Phytoncides, which are chemicals released by trees and plants, have been shown to enhance the activity of natural killer cells, which help fight infections.

Additionally, sunlight exposure helps the body produce vitamin D, which is essential for bone health by aiding calcium absorption.

Some of the mental health benefits include reduced stress, improved mood and enhanced cognitive function.

Spending time outside, particularly in nature has been shown to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, reducing overall stress levels and promoting relaxation.

Time spent in nature is associated with increased levels of serotonin and endorphins, chemicals in the brain that improve mood and contribute to feelings of happiness.

Additionally, walking and outdoor activities can improve concentration, memory, and creativity. Green spaces have been linked to better cognitive performance and reduced mental fatigue.

If all of those reasons were not enough, it’s really nice to spend time outside with people building connections which is a huge proponent of your overall happiness and wellbeing

So if you’re not already doing it, schedule out some time and get yourself outside to enjoy some nice weather. Your body & mind will thank you for it!
