Why Busy Begs for Routine

We’ve heard it a million times “ugh I’ve just been too busy to (insert anything related to taking care of yourself)”

The number one thing we do, and we all do it, when we are busy is push our needs to the side. I can’t go to the gym because I have to do xyz. I can’t meal prep because of xyz. I don’t have enough time to sleep because of… you get the picture.

But why does it have to be this way? Why can’t being busy push us in the opposite direction? Why can’t we use our busy schedules as an incentive to find time for ourselves and then show up better in other areas? Well, the answer is that we can!

The only one standing in the way of that is you. There’s no reason you can’t double down on doing things that are good for you when your life gets chaotic. If anything, it just opens up the space to become more organized in prioritize the things that are important to you even more. How good does it feel to absolutely crush your daily routine and check all of the boxes you know you needed to do? If you are familiar with the feeling it’s absolute bliss going to sleep that night knowing you did it. If you aren’t familiar with this, maybe it’s time for a change.

Think about it, are there areas in your busy day that you can make space for yourself? Maybe it’s going to bed a little bit earlier so you can get up a little earlier and get your morning workout in. Maybe it’s lowering your screen time so that you can take a little extra time to prep some dinners for the week and make your life easier in the long run. Maybe it’s sitting down to write out your schedule for the day/week and blocking out time to get things done for just yourself. Maybe it’s just taking five minutes to breathe and try and lower your stress levels throughout the day so that you don’t feel so burnt out by the time your day is done.

We all know that there are little things we can do and sacrifice to help ourselves make better choices and ultimately feel better. There’s no doubt I’m only gonna feel more stressed and worse if in addition to all the things I have going on I also give up my workout routine, my healthy, eating habits and let my stress get the best of me. So why would I?

Take a minute today to think about what areas of your life you can open up to allow for space to take care of yourself. The possibilities might surprise you!
