How To Go One More

Last week, Coach Andy went into depth on what anaerobic training is in a more scientific and technical sense. We learned that it’s all about pushing lactic threshold and challenging the HR to ultimately improve VO2Max.

Today I want to take about the more mental side of that. The science all checks out, we know it makes sense and we know the benefits that can come out of it. But how do we truly achieve that?

This training block we are in is all about one of my personal favorite phrases; “Go One More”.

Now from a more literal sense, this means that we need our athletes to go one more rep this entire training block. You know the feeling, you’ve been doing wall balls or burpees or the assault bike for 20s hard, there’s 10s left on the clock, you have a choice to make. You could dog it, slow down, be happy with that solid effort. Or you can make the choice in that moment, to push past what you think your limit is, and truly challenge yourself. Those extra reps count. They increase your stimulus, they push you more towards that lactic threshold, they elevate the HR, and most importantly, they challenge you mentally.

In a less literal sense, “Go One More” is all about pushing outside of your comfort zone in general. It is about embracing new challenges. Choosing to do the hard thing over the easy thing because you know it will benefit you in the long run. It’s about searching for new limits, not being afraid of failure because you know that failure is just an opportunity to learn and grow. It’s getting out of bed when you want nothing more than to skip the gym, it’s showing up after a long hard day of work, it’s bringing energy that encourages those around you to rise up to the challenge as well.

Now if you approach our current training block with this mindset, I have no doubt you will have incredible results.

If you approach your life with this mindset, I have no doubt you will live an extraordinary life.

It’s never too late to start. Make the choice, today, to be the best version of yourself. You know you won’t regret it!
