Because December has a way of sneaking up on us. One minute you’re coasting through fall feeling pretty good about your routine, and the next you’re juggling holiday parties, school events, travel plans, work deadlines, and a general sense of being pulled in twelve directions at once.
If you’ve been feeling a little off track lately, you’re not alone. This time of year is the number-one season for fitness inconsistency, not because people don’t care, but because life genuinely gets busier, louder, and more demanding.
Here’s the good news:
You don’t need a “perfect” routine in December — you just need a workable one.
Below are simple, realistic strategies to help you stay accountable even when things get chaotic. These apply whether you train with us in group classes, work 1:1 with a coach, or simply want to feel more grounded and consistent during the holidays.
1. Shift Your Mindset From “Perfect” to “Possible”
Accountability doesn’t mean hitting PRs or training five days a week in December. It means showing up in some capacity.
Instead of asking:
“How do I squeeze in my whole routine?”
Ask:
“What version of movement is possible for me today?”
2. Schedule Your Workouts Like Appointments (Because They Are!)
If it lives on your calendar, it’s far more likely to happen.
Put your workouts on your schedule the same way you’d block off time for a meeting or a doctor’s appointment. Treat your training sessions like something you’ve committed to — not something you’ll get to “if you have time.”
3. Use Your Community
Accountability is built through connection.
Let your favorite training buddy know your plan for the week. Even better? Text each other the night before to confirm you’re both going.
Share your December workout schedule with me or another coach.
Having someone who expects you — and roots for you — makes all the difference.
4. Keep a Mini “Bare Minimum” Routine
When things get busiest, simplify.
Choose 2–3 non-negotiable micro-habits that help you stay anchored:
- 10 minutes of stretching at night
- 1–2 strength sessions per week
- A daily walk
- Drinking water before every meal
These don’t replace full workouts, but they keep your body in motion and your mindset engaged — which makes it much easier to return to your normal routine in January.
5. Give Yourself Permission to Pivot
Your December schedule might change. A lot.
That doesn’t mean your commitment is gone — it means you’re human.
If you miss a session, reschedule it instead of abandoning the week.
If you fall off for a few days, don’t spiral; simply restart with the next available opportunity.
Consistency isn’t about never slipping — it’s about always returning.
6. Remember Your “Why” (It Matters Even More Right Now)
The busiest seasons are when your “why” becomes your anchor:
- You want more energy.
- You want to feel strong and capable.
- You want to manage stress.
- You want to keep your momentum.
- You want to show up for yourself.
Reconnect to the reason movement matters to you. It becomes easier to choose it when the world is pulling you in a dozen other directions.
7. Celebrate Every Win — Even the Small Ones
December isn’t about crushing goals. It’s about maintaining your well-being.
Every time you:
- show up to class
- complete a PT session
- choose a walk instead of skipping movement entirely
- stretch before bed
- drink water on a hectic day
… you’re winning.
Give yourself credit. The small wins add up, and they carry real momentum into the new year.
Chaos doesn’t have to derail your progress — it just asks you to be flexible, intentional, and kinder to yourself. Your routine doesn’t need to be perfect this month to still be powerful.
And remember: whether you’re in our group classes or working privately with a coach, you’re never navigating this month alone. We’re here to support you, encourage you, and help you keep moving forward — one doable step at a time.
If you’re not yet a client, now is also a great time to join!
This season is actually one of the best times to get started. Even small amounts of structure now can lower your stress, help you feel grounded, and give you a head start going into the new year. Instead of waiting for January’s “all-or-nothing” rush, you can ease in at your own pace, build confidence, and start creating habits that already feel familiar when January arrives.
Plus, December tends to be a quieter, more personal time to get oriented, meet the team, and begin with support — without the pressure of the January crowd.
So whether you’re restarting, rebuilding, or brand new, there’s no better time than now to take that first step. Your future self will be so glad you didn’t wait.
