Surviving The Summer Slump

Summer in MA is officially here! Which means we have to soak up every ounce of it that we can get considering how tough of a winter/spring we just survived. What this can lead to inevitably is what I refer to as the “summer slump” in the fitness industry. People go on trips, take days off to go to the beach, and want to spend time doing leisurely activities that just aren’t possible in the cold weather months.

Listen, I am all for that. I too love summer where we live, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world in my opinion. You should absolutely do all of those things. What I am here to do is tell you why your fitness doesn’t have to take a backseat to all of that with these simple tips;

  1. Adjust your expectations… If you typically come 5x per week super consistently, but find that is stressing you out, think about loosening the reins a little bit. 3-4x can get the job done and you can replace that extra workout with a fun outdoor activity!
  2. Schedule, schedule, schedule… If you are typically a “fly by the seat of your pants” type of person, think about trying to put your workouts into your calendar and sign up on Kilo ahead of time so it is taken care of. Less decisions= less stress! Just sign up and commit!
  3. Consider alternative times… If you typically come later in the day but are wanting to free up that time for fun activities, consider starting your day earlier with a 5:30am or 7am class! The sun is up and shining all morning anyways- may as well enjoy it! Or on the other hand if you’re busy sleeping in from enjoying those later sunsets, consider an 11:30am lunch break class or a 5pm to kickstart a great evening. There are plenty of options- just adjust your schedule and don’t be afraid to mix it up!
  4. Stay active while you’re away… And it doesn’t have to be fancy. Start the day with some steps, go for a swim, a hike, a bike ride, really anything that you enjoy can replace a workout while you are away and keep you feeling like you’re in the routine so it isn’t a struggle to come back!
  5. Ask for help… if you find yourself in that slump and you’re really struggling to make the most of your membership, reach out to your coaches! We have tons of experience and expertise in how you can make it work and we are happy to chat with you.

Summer should be fun, but your fitness doesn’t have to suffer because of it! Keep moving, stay consistent, crush your goals, and live life to the fullest- you can have it all!
