A big congratulations to our TW April Athlete of the Month… Michelle Robbins!
Michelle has been with us for a little under a year, and in that time truly blossomed as a bright spot in our community. We can confidently say that Michelle is one of the most positive people we know, bringing both energy and passion to the early morning classes. It can be difficult to remain optimistic at such an early hour, but not for Michelle. She finds the good in every workout, is enthusiastic about new challenges and pushes herself whenever she can. Michelle is the type of athlete who really competes with herself, and solely herself. She uses her own performance as motivation to strive to be better, and finds ways to move the needle whenever she can. She is not known to back down from a challenge, and will proceed with a smile on her face and encouragement for the other athletes in class. Michelle holds herself to a high standard of health and wellness, while balancing her lifestyle so that she can do the things she loves, have fun in the gym, and remain consistent. We are so proud to have her represent TW this month, and every other month. Thanks for being you Michelle, we appreciate you!
TW: Where are you from?
TW: What do you do for work?
Michelle: I am a paralegal trainer for an Intellectual Property law firm. When our clients want patent protection outside the U.S., our department works with law firms around the world to obtain patent protection.
TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?
Michelle: 8 months
TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?
Michelle: Prior to Covid I worked out on a regular basis. Once everything closed and I was working from home, I lost motivation. I really wanted to get back into a routine. I wanted something challenging and close to home, so Tradewinds was perfect!
TW: What group class do you usually attend?
Michelle: Usually 6 or 7. I’m an early bird!
TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?
Michelle: Yes, I have taken pretty much every type of group class out there! Boot camps, HIIT, spin, kickboxing, Pure Barre. I love group classes and mixing things up. One thing I love about TW is every class is so different. Keeps things interesting!
TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Michelle: A long Grind! Burpees, front lunges, V ups and box jumps!
TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?
Michelle: The amount of weight I have been able to lift. I have never challenged myself to lift anything super heavy and it feels good when I am able to add another plate and see my progress.
TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?
Michelle: The one thing that really stands out is it has made me a much stronger skier! This was a strange year for skiing and there were a few days that were very warm and felt like we were skiing through mashed potatoes! I felt so much stronger on these tough days than past years! Same with cross country skiing; I was so much faster and stronger this winter!
TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?
Michelle: Anything where I’m outside! Ski, bike, hike, paddle board, kayak, boat, sail…
TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?
Michelle: I don’t really have a favorite song. I like everything from Pitbull and Eminem to Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. I just need a good upbeat, fun song.
TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?
Michelle: Just try it out. Tradewinds is for all levels and the coaches are great about providing modifications when needed. Every class is so different, so you will never get bored!
AOM Closing thoughts…
I am so glad I joined Tradewinds. It was exactly the challenge I needed. I feel stronger each day, and I am building more confidence! I am thankful to the wonderful coaches for always pushing me to push myself!
