December 2024 Athlete of the Month

Team TW would like to extend a very big congratulations to our Athlete of the Month for December 2024… Tim O’Malley!

This is such a well deserved honor to give to Tim and anyone who works out with him knows why. Tim is the type of person that just knows how to get things done, when to turn the energy up, and genuinely never complains no matter what. He shows up so dedicated to this process and really embraces every single challenge we throw his way. Tim lifts up others around him, gives us a “woot” when we really need it, and is constantly grabbing the bull by the horns in the gym. We have seen him complete incredible feats of strength such as beautiful strict chin ups, and challenge himself to things that are difficult in other ways such as really working on the mind muscle connection. Tim is a positive addition to whatever class he steps into and a great role model in our community! Thanks for being you Tim- we appreciate you and love cheering you on!

TW: Where are you from?

Tim: Boston, but I grew up in southern Maine.

TW: What do you do for work?

Tim: I’m a stay at home Dad.

TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?

Tim: About 2 years, with a small break.

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Tim: I was looking for a job, really. I know my tenure as a stay at home Dad will be up, and I’ll want to do something. I’ve always enjoyed working out at a gym, or doing home fitness programs, dieting, meal prep, all of it… I wanted to learn more movements. And get jacked. Plus, it was right up the street!!!

TW: What group class do you usually attend?

Tim: The 5:30 a.m. class, for the savages.

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?

Tim: To some degree. I’ve always enjoyed lifting weights and done physical work. I’ve trained a little boxing, and love working out at home.

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?

Tim: Well, I do love my pull ups, burpees and jump rope, but my dream WOD would be:

Giant sets of everything and anything, with slow, heavy weights, loud music,

and Gabby screaming “Come on team! 10 more seconds!!”

Dream.

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Tim: Not just making fitness a priority, but making fitness part of my everyday life. It’s like brushing my teeth.

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Tim: It helps keep me accountable for my everyday health. I know I need to rest right, eat right, and make the right choices or I lose my progress. And I’m not losing my progress, that’s not happening.

TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?

Tim: I walk and ruck. I also have an 8 3/4 year old son, which is its own kind of gym membership.

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Tim: Anything by the Beastie Boys.

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Tim: It’s such a safe place to work really, really hard.

AOM Closing Thoughts…

I’m really enjoying myself at Tradewinds. The coaching staff is so knowledgeable and approachable that I can push myself pretty hard. This might sound cliche, but I feel better after every workout. I have a tough job and it’s sometimes difficult to always put on a smiling face. Working out, hard, at 5:30 in the morning, makes the rest of the day a breeze. I love it.
