On behalf of the TW team and community we would like to congratulate our February 2022 Athlete of the Month… Maya Jachimowicz!

Maya joined us in April of 2021 and has grown tremendously as an athlete every day since. She is someone who consistently shows up and puts in the work. No matter what the workout, no matter how challenging or simple it may be, Maya is there trying to get better. She may crack the occasional joke or remark about the workout making us laugh, but then it’s right back into business- simply getting it done. Maya has taken the time to really work on her fitness journey and the progress has shown itself. She is a great example of what comes out of committing to something, sticking with it and being consistent. She is always willing to try new exercises and isn’t afraid of the unknown- something we really admire about her. We are so proud and honored to have someone like Maya as an example and role model for our community. Congrats Maya, you earned it!

TW: Where did you grow up?

Maya: I grew up in Andover, Massachusetts. I’ve lived in Winthrop for about five years now.

TW: What do you do for work?

Maya: I’m an attorney, currently working in real estate.

TW: How long have you been coming to Tradewinds?

Maya: Since last summer.

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Maya: I really needed to kickstart my exercise routine after slumping during the pandemic. Tradewinds was perfect because it is close by.

TW: What class do you typically attend?

Maya: I usually attend 5 PM classes, or occasionally at 11:30.

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to Tradewinds?

Maya: I trained in powerlifting for a year before the pandemic and ran a few 5ks, though I always had trouble training consistently.

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?

Maya: Heavy barbell bench presses, barbell rows, and deadlifts all day long

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Maya: I made significant improvements on my last benchmark.

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Maya: Taking a class at Tradewinds after working from home all day provides me with a much needed opportunity to clear my head and relieve stress.

TW: What do you like to do outside of the gym?

Maya: I train in martial arts a couple of times a week. During warmer months, I enjoy whitewater kayaking and other outdoor activities. I also love attending concerts, mostly metal; I count mosh pits as cardio.

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Maya: I don’t have a favorite song specifically, but I do enjoy the occasions when we get to hear some metal during class.

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Maya: Tradewinds has a wonderful, supportive environment. The coaches will work to accommodate you based on your fitness level and specific needs. You will have your limits pushed, but you will never end class regretting that you came.

AOM Closing Thoughts…

Working out at Tradewinds has been a great experience. I’ve been introduced to new exercises I had never tried before and I feel like my overall fitness has benefited as a result. The coaches have been awesome at helping me get the most out of each exercise. As a person who has always had a difficult time exercising consistently and never thought of themselves as athletic, CrossFit always seemed like it was out of my league. Tradewinds showed me that was not the case. I’m truly grateful for that.
