Time to Step it Up!

In case you haven’t already heard all the hype around the famous Step-A-Thon coming up, here’s another reminder on what to expect and how to make the most of our August Challenge!

The 2nd Annual TW Summer Step-A-Thon will be held from Thursday August 1st through Wednesday August 31st. This is a gym-wide, all inclusive step challenge that has two aspects to it. Buy in is FREE, every single athlete is ALREADY ENROLLED and encouraged to participate! The goal is to work together as a community to achieve something that requires teamwork, consistency and positive energy, as well as individually working towards a personal goal at the same time.

Part 1: Step Tracking

In this piece, you will track your steps on a daily or weekly basis. We will have an excel sheet posted on the wall of the gym with every current athlete as well as a space for you to track each day/week’s steps. At the end of the week individual totals will be tallied. Top steppers will receive honorable mention! We will also have a step-ometer with the current gym wide total tally of steps on a weekly basis. Last year, we smashed our original goal of 1 million steps easily and even maxed out at 10 million steps by the end of the month! This year I want to go big. We have more athletes, we have more energy, we have more motivation to succeed. Our goal as a gym is to achieve 15 MILLION STEPS collectively in the month of August. If this is achieved, athletes will have the opportunity to vote on how they want the coaches to reward them for their efforts

Part 2: 5K Walk or Run

The challenge will culminate in a 1.5 mile walk or 5k run on Saturday September 7th, at the gym at 9am. The goal is to use the step training from August to build towards the end result of this walk or run. The more steps we take, the closer we come towards our common goal and also whatever individual goal you may have. Following the walk/run will be a celebration of our efforts in the gym with food, drinks and fun!

Easy ways to get more steps:

  • set a timer for every 30 mins, get up and walk around the house or the block every time it goes off
  • Wake up 15 minutes earlier to start the day with a quick walk
  • Take a walk after each meal
  • Invite a friend to go for a walk
  • Walk to your favorite restaurant or shop
  • Park in the spot that is furthest from where you are going
  • Pop on a playlist or podcast and take a walk
  • Get a pedometer to visually see your progress
  • Set a daily step goal
  • Set a weekly step goal
  • Schedule your walks into your day via planner or virtual calendar

The possibilities are truly endless, and if everyone chooses to step it up with at least one or two of these ideas we will DEFINITELY achieve our 15 millions step goal by August 31st.

Can’t wait to see where this challenge takes us, let’s do it!
