You Get To Do It

Every season of life can come with hard things. It’s impossible to avoid discomfort our entire lives. Those challenges can feel overwhelming, they can bear down on us and attack our mindset. We can then begin to ruminate on the things weighing us down.

But what happens when we flip the script and change the narrative?

What happens when we look at our challenges as an opportunity instead?

Let’s take this week’s blizzard as an example.

Before the blizzard my week already looked packed. Tons of projects to work on, sessions to coach and meetings to attend.

Then boom, pre-school is cancelled and I have to cancel all the sessions at the studio.

Two days later, and two days of no pre-school and no sessions at the studio (no power), and over a foot of snow dumped on us, I’m about to feel pretty defeated.

Instead, I shift my perspective.

I get to spend two days home with my son.

We get to play in the snow and build a snow fort. Hello beautiful core memories.

Yes my projects got put on hold and I have to rearrange my week to get my clients in, and my own workouts in. And I spent over 5 hours shoveling snow.

But… I got to do it. I’m living and breathing.

And I’m healthy enough to shovel for over 5 hours. And to run around with my kid. And I have the flexibility in my schedule to move things around.

I am grateful, not defeated.

I’m grateful not for the challenges, but for the ability to recognize what is in my control and what is out of my control, and then choose to shift my perspective to one that builds up my life, and my mindset, not tear it down.

We can’t control most of what life throws at us. But what we can always control is how we react and handle whatever comes our way.

At Tradewinds we believe mindset plays such an important role in our wellness.

We can work hard in the studio and eat well outside, get our 10k steps, drink plenty of water, and get good sleep. But if we don’t also work on our mindset, we could always end up feeling like everything we do is still not good enough.

We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can decide what to make of it, whatever it may be.

Are you going to let challenges negatively affect you or are you going to tap into your mindset as a superpower to create some opportunities?

Either way, whatever you choose, you get to do it.

If you’re a current client and you’re feeling stuck, maybe take a moment to reflect on the thoughts you have around your current situation. Ask yourself a few questions. What is going right? What opportunities are still there for me to work on? And if you need more help, reach out to schedule a check in to talk through things together.

If you’re not a client, that’s okay. We can still help. Reach out to schedule a time to talk to a team member about how we can help.
