Athlete of the Month – November 2018

Todd is your Athlete for November!

Todd is one of the hardest working athletes at the gym! He’s been with us for a while, and you’ll often find him participating in a lot of our events and throwdowns and, well, let’s have the man tell us all more!

Athlete Interview
CFT: Where are you from?
Todd: Winthrop my whole life

CFT: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Todd: 2.5 years

CFT: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting CrossFit?
Todd: Yes, I used to do the regular gym rat routine. I wouldn’t say it was much of a “background”, but more of a “just want to get a workout.” In my later years I started doing High Intensity Interval Training and spin, which took me to a whole new level, and then onto OCR (obstacle course racing) which forced me to up my fitness game.

CFT: What motivated you to try CrossFit?
Todd: To be honest, it was my friend, and fellow Tradewinds member, Chris Beshere. He’s been my partner-in-crime for Crossfit, OCRs, and hiking. He’s my trusted advisor on these things.

CFT: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?
Todd: So this is a GREAT question because I have no idea how these people program, I’m totally unsure which movements are appropriate to go together. All that said, barbell workouts, with Dubs or box jumps, are typically my favorites.

CFT: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining CFT?
Todd: Oh my, so many. I would say finally getting double unders; those escaped me for the longest time.

CFT: How has CFT helped you in your everyday life?
Todd: No more back pain from sitting down too long, more stamina to keep up with the wife and kids, and overall better health as I’m more motivated to workout than I’ve ever been.

CFT: What do you like to do outside of the gym?
Todd: Hike, play with my kids, fish, boating, skiing, walking, beach, most anything outside.

CFT: What is your favorite song to workout to?
Todd: Ice Cube – You Can Do It

CFT: Anything else you’d like to share with your fellow athletes?
Todd: So it has been a very interesting experience. First, in the beginning, it was quite humbling. I came to CrossFit in the best shape I’d been in in my entire life, and my very first workout absolutely crushed me. I went home saying, “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I keep up?,” which, by the way, is something I still find myself saying from time to time. For the first several months, I only did CrossFit 2-3 times a week. Though I wasn’t full time, I noticed drastic improvements in my strength and stamina and so I decided a year and a half ago that I would commit to CrossFit! Since that time, I’ve seen improvements in every area of fitness. While I’m not a CrossFit evangelist, I’m a believer that it works, I love that the workouts are varied, and I really love the friends I’ve made at Tradewinds!

CFT: Excellent stuff, Todd. We love having you around! Keep up the great work!
