Team Tradewinds is proud to announce our January AOM and the first one of 2023 is Kelsey Gannon! Congrats Kelsey.

It has been a full year since Kelsey joined our community and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch her flourish in that time. She has a natural athleticism that we noticed right from the jump, something that she was able to channel and use to challenge herself. You will constantly see Kelsey raising the bar and setting high standards for herself. She understands how to push her body in all the right ways. She respects that moving well is more important than anything. And she sets a beautiful example of how to excel in the group setting. Kelsey is also the definition of consistency. You can always count on seeing her 3 days per week at 6am with minimal exceptions to that routine. Not only does she show up, but she comes to work. You will literally NEVER hear a single complaint out of Kelsey, we aren’t even sure if she knows how to. From what we have seen she only knows how to come in and get things done. Kelsey is someone we are so proud to call our own, and we are lucky to have her representing TW!

TW: Where are you from?

Kelsey: I grew up in RI, but moved to Winthrop in 2020.

TW: What do you do for work?

Kelsey: I’m a physical therapist at a rehab hospital. I work primarily with people with neurologic conditions or injuries such as brain injuries & strokes.

TW: How long have you been at Tradewinds?

Kelsey: It will be a year in January!

TW: What motivated you to try Tradewinds?

Kelsey: I had been looking to join a gym after doing at home workouts throughout the pandemic. My wedding was coming up in 8 months, and I wanted to get into a consistent routine to get in better shape before then. The gym is within walking distance of where I live so it makes it easy to get there, except on cold mornings.

TW: What group class do you usually attend?

Kelsey: 6AM.. I’m an early riser!

TW: Did you have a fitness background prior to starting at Tradewinds?

Kelsey: I’ve always been pretty active- I grew up playing sports (soccer, softball, track), have run a few half marathons (one was in Ireland), and have always made exercising in some form part of my routine.

TW: If you could program your dream WOD, what would it be?

Kelsey: Any type of LIFT/FORGE combo

TW: What is your proudest accomplishment since joining Tradewinds?

Kelsey: Creating and sticking with a consistent routine for this long. Challenging myself to lift heavier and seeing the progress I’ve made at each benchmark.

TW: How has Tradewinds helped you in your everyday life?

Kelsey: I like starting my day at Tradewinds because I feel like I have so much more energy for the rest of the day. Exercise is a huge stress reliever for me so going to class early in the morning helps me clear my mind before the work day. My job can be pretty physically demanding at times and I’ve noticed my body is much more resilient since starting at Tradewinds- I’ve had no aches/pains after lifting patients all day.

TW: What do you like to do outside the gym?

Kelsey: My husband and I like to travel- we just went to Italy for our Honeymoon in October and we are already planning another European adventure for next year along with some other trips in the US. My husband and I also like to cook and try new recipes- we made homemade ravioli for Christmas. I also like to read, listen to true crime podcasts, go to the beach & kayak during the summer, and go on walks/spend time with my dog Winnie.

TW: What is your favorite song to workout to?

Kelsey: Anything.. I’m not picky

TW: What’s one thing you’d tell someone who is curious about trying Tradewinds but not sure if they could do it?

Kelsey: The hardest part is walking through the door and getting started, but soon enough it becomes a habit and part of you. Everyone is so welcoming and the coaches are ready to meet you where you are at so the exercises can be modified and individualized to you. Even on days when you’re not feeling super motivated, the coaches can find a way to encourage you and keep you moving.

AOM Closing Thoughts…

I’m so glad I decided to join Tradewinds. The entire community is so welcoming and the coaches are very knowledgeable, fun, and motivating. They are always there to support you and challenge you to find your strength. I’ve noticed so many positive changes in my mental and physical health since starting, and am looking forward to the year ahead!
